How-to Navigate a Holiday Dinner When You Have Allergies or Intolerances

With Thanksgiving around the corner, here are six tips on how to navigate holidays when you have food intolerances or allergies:

1) If you aren’t sure what food is being served at the holiday gathering, pack your own food in a tupperware and bring it along as a back up. It’s better to be safe.

2) Bring an appetizer and/or dessert for everyone so that you know there is at least one dish that you can safely eat.

3) The host won’t be offended if you don’t eat their food or if you bring your own. Explain to them what your situation is. No one wants to see you suffer. They will understand.

4) Ask ahead of time what is being made so you have an idea of what you will be able to eat. A polite way of going about it is offering to bring a side dish that you know is safe for you.

5) Your energy is important. Do what you can to stay well rested. If that means leaving one hour earlier to go home, or taking a mid day nap, take care of yourself. You don’t want to end up in a flare from overexerting yourself.

6) Protein bars are always a great food to have in your purse or pocket as backup.

I hope these tips are helpful for you all! Happy holidays everyone!

In good health,

Dana
